Inside the hospital suite…

In 2019, Johan got diagnosed with TBE which came to effect every aspect of his life. After having been in out of the hospital for a year, the pandemic exploded in 2020 and his day to day life at the hospital drastically changed. All of a sudden his family were no longer allowed to visit him and instead he was met by covered faces and tired eyes.

“All I saw was scared and tired eyes. Every once in a while they would try to cheer me up while putting on a happy mood but I knew how exhausted they were.”

Johan Jönsson, 2020

Johan Jönsson was painting in his hospital bed. The paintings became his only recognition of the hospital personnel that had taken care of him in his lowest hours. The brain fog from the illness made it difficult for him to remember the names, all he could remember were their eyes.

Many of the nurses that worked at the hospital came to his exhibition in Malmo and was deeply touched by his gratefulness and beautiful artwork.
